Delirium Pathomutogeno Adductum [translated as Sentimental Mutagen Delirium] came into being over a span of three rigorous and tumultuous years—full of highs, lows, heartbreak and even death. The journey to this point was nothing short of miraculous and we are excited and humbled to present you this work. Tracked across multiple continents and time zones, the album acts as a bridge lingering between worlds, the waking and the dream—and posits the body as the portal and ship traversing between these uncomfortable and ephemeral universes. What signal will arrive through the antenna of this radio? Will it be some regurgitated memory, or a remote view into the future? With faith and veneration, 夢遊病者(Sleepwalker) is joined by numerous classical, Americana, gospel and jazz denizens, along with musicians from Spiral Architect, Habbina Habbina, convulsing, P.M.S./Wench, Traveler and Chthe’ilist. We are forever honored and thankful for their time and dedication to this demanding work. Cortez are back! These Boston underdogs remain persistently underrated but remain among the best bets you can make in heavy rock and roll. Their latest LP, Thieves and Charlatans, demonstrates their ability to command a sound that is both classic-rooted and modern in its construction. While the sprawl and doom-chug largesse of Cortez isn’t to be understated the band makes clear statements of who they are and still have a party. They manage to do it all without giving up either impact or movement of the songs that follow. It is an attention to detail that serves them well. Cortez comments: “We were a bit selfish while writing and recording this album,” says O’Dowd. “There’s probably one of our catchiest songs in ‘Gimme Danger (On My Stereo),’ and yet some of our longer, gloomier songs as well. There are also more complex guitar and vocal arrangements than in the past.” “This album is an anomaly of sorts because these songs were written and recorded in a vacuum, during a pandemic,” reminds Harrington. “Cortez has never been shy about playing new songs before they are released, and this is the first time we didn’t have the filter of an audience. I feel like this is a more personal record as a result. We wrote these songs as friends in a room that no longer exists, holding onto something real in a prolonged period of extreme doubt, and we present them in the same way.” Thieves and Charlatans by Cortez Release date: October 18, 2024 Label: Ripple Music Genre(s): Doom, stoner metal Find Cortez: Instagram | Website
Dear Deceased formed in the early 1990s and cranked out insanely great live sets for a couple years before they dissolved. Luckily, they also recorded a demo with the ubiquitous Bart Thurber. Mitch, the bassist, went on to front Operator Generator, and George Rice (rhythm guitar) was the original bassist for High on Fire. Erik went on to be vocals for another band, Bliss of Triple Six.
