Dynamic progressive metal project Fight The Tornado returns with their new high-octane single “Upsurge”. Bringing their distinctive catchy hooks with fierce intensity, the track provides first look at their forthcoming debut album.
Band leader Jonny had this to say about the song:
‘Upsurge’ marks the next chapter in the musical direction of FIGHT THE TORNADO. I always like to challenge myself by seeing how many different sections I can have in a song and still tie it all together, to keep things interesting but still nice to listen to and I think ‘Upsurge’ is a good example of that. I look forward to seeing what people think of it!
Fight The Tornado’s “Upsurge” details an epic journey of overcoming your own battles. The trepidation of the topic appears in the first verse when it is blown open with heavy guitars and a big choir of both male (Jonny Young) and female (Lindzi North) vocals, before picking up the pace into a driving pre-chorus. The chorus is catchy and easy to listen to, bringing the premise of hope to the song as a stark contrast to the turbulence and doubt that are expressed in heavy screaming, piano laden riffs and even an ambient verse that helps tie the turmoil of “Upsurge” together.
